Legacy: Decades of Discovery - 2020s

The Haskins Press of Haskins Laboratories announced the publication of Language and Life: Haskins Laboratories’ first half century, by Carol A. Fowler and Donald Shankweiler.

In April 2023, most researchers working at 300 George Street, Suite 900, in New Haven, Connecticut, received appointments at the Yale Child Study Center in the Yale School of Medicine. Others have their primary appointments at other institutions, particularly the University of Connecticut. Although grants are formally transferred to Yale, research continues in the same space at 300 George, with the same equipment. Collaboration across multiple institutions continues.

A new, independent Haskins website, www.haskinslaboratories.org, is launched.

As we look to the future, there are additional developments and initiatives that are taking place or are being discussed, including:

a) The internal organization of the old Haskins team now a part of the Yale Child Study Center, presently called the Yale Child Study Center Language Sciences Consortium (informally: “the Haskins Group”).

b) Development of joint research ventures between Yale and UConn, such as the Global Literacy Hub Initiative.

c) Future partnerships with UConn (“Haskins Collaboratories”), where many scientists remain, as well as with other scientists all over the world; and

d) The possibilities of new initiatives, including establishing an independent Haskins Society of Scholars.
